Home / All Socio-economic Activities / Free distribution of Grocery & sanitary items… to the artisan families affected by Covid pandemic…
The second wave of Covid 19 has wreaked havoc in India. The situation has been a deadly nightmare. The whole nation has been affected in one way or the other. Economy suffered huge loss due to the two months lockdown, which is still continuing in many parts of the country. Be it urban or rural areas, the economic activities were hit hard by the pandemic.
Many people who had migrated from the villages to cities in search of work were forced to return back to their native places!! This led to food crisis and intensified the hunger problem as the underprivileged people lacked enough food to feed their families. Artisan community & the daily wage laborers also faced huge losses due to the closing down of markets & business houses. Many artisans were not even able to support their families for basic necessities like food & sanitary items in the absence of livelihood options. Mental depression due to number of deaths, fear of infection, lack of resources and food gripped common people.
SETU is associated with many such artisan groups that are facing grave crisis in the present scenario. One such group is ‘SURE’, which is an NGO based in Barmer, Rajasthan. The group works with artisans from remote villages of Binjarad and Chohtan. They informed SETU Society about the poor situation of people there and how the marginalized families were forced into extreme poverty and were in desperate need of support. SETU team was heartbroken knowing their ordeal and without any delay, sponsored necessary grocery items to 100 families free of cost for one month.
Following items were provided to the needy families..
