Skill development plays a vital role in empowering women, especially those from economically weaker communities. Vocational training helps women gain confidence, financial independence, and decision-making ability within their families and communities.
Tailoring skills can create sustainable livelihood opportunities through self-employment, small businesses, or local employment. Such initiatives also encourage women to become active contributors to household income, thereby improving their social and economic status.
Therefore, SETU organised a two-month tailoring skill development workshop for underprivileged women and girls living in the urban slums of Jaipur. The initiative aimed to provide vocational skills that could help participants become economically independent and improve their livelihood opportunities.
A total of 10 women/girls participated in the workshop. A skilled tailoring trainer was appointed to provide hands-on training in cutting, stitching, sewing techniques, and creating new product designs. Sewing machines and raw materials were also made available for the training duration.
The key objectives of the project were:
During the two-month training program, participants learned:
The workshop focused on practical learning to ensure that participants could independently apply the skills in future employment or home-based work opportunities.
The workshop helped participants develop valuable tailoring and design skills while boosting their self-confidence and motivation. The women showed active participation and enthusiasm throughout the training period.
By the end of the workshop, participants were able to independently stitch garments and create simple products and designs. The training has opened possibilities for home-based income generation and future entrepreneurial activities.
SETU will continue to support such initiatives that strengthen the capacities and confidence of underprivileged communities.
