“Make a child smile” Campaign…
A child development initiative…

Place: Jaipur
Period: March 2024

The main motto of the “Make a child smile” campaign was the happiness of underprivileged kids of women artisans. These women are mostly illiterate or very less educated. They come from oppressed, male dominated backgrounds and are mostly forced to do odd & less-lucrative jobs like cleaning, sweeping etc., where they can’t even take their small kids. SETU manages a Community Centre in the area for such women, with the motto to provide space where these women can learn and earn along with a safe shelter for their young kids. The centre provides various skill development trainings to the women so they can earn a decent livelihood meanwhile take care of their children. These kids are deprived of precious childhood activities. The mothers cannot afford any crèche or pre-primary education also as they always focus on livelihood generation and fulfilling their basic needs.

So we planned this “Joyful Childhood” initiative to support poor & underprivileged women’s’ kids of the centre. At the same time, sensitizing & creating awareness amongst the privileged students about the poor children, who are same as they are, but growing in different environment with their underprivileged parents. Most students in schools are left with many out grown / ‘no more in use’ toys, games and stationary. Usually, after some time, these things end up in scraps, and the children move on with the new accessories.

Aim of the program:

  • Helping underprivileged women artisans and their kids.
  • Green Initiative, promoting reusing & recycling, for the benefit of the generations to come.
  • To make privileged students more aware, responsible and sensitive towards their fellow mates.

And with the help of the various schools of Jaipur; we successfully completed the campaign and arranged pre-used as well as new toys, games, swings, beginners’ slides, storybooks, stationary, community toys etc. for the young underprivileged kids so that they can grow effectively and have a joyful and memorable childhood.

The participant schools got the recognition certificate for this noble cause from SETU society.
