Environment Awareness Programme on World Environment Day

SETU organized an environment awareness program at the prestigious Gaurav Tower, a huge shopping mall & High street of Jaipur, on the occasion of World Environment Day.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5th June to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental action. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It is also a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations. Falling groundwater tables, biodiversity loss, soil erosion, air & water pollution, garbage and other issues of the natural environment call for immediate drastic measures on the people’s end.

The program was organized as part of SETU’s environmental sustainability initiatives. The objectives of the program were-

· To check the awareness quotient of people about environment.
· To enlighten them about the importance of environment & their role towards sustainability.
· Motivate them to follow environment friendly practices in their daily lives.
· Motivate them to reduce consumerism where possible.

SETU team interacted with about 100 visitors coming into the mall and asked them to share their thoughts on how they could contribute towards environment sustainability. They were also asked to fill a questionnaire consisting of 16 close and open ended questions to check their awareness about the environment.

They were given marks for every correct answer & ideas. Those with highest scores in total were awarded with sustainable and handmade prizes to appreciate and motivate them. It was observed that quite a lot of people were not aware of the small but effective actions that they can take to help save the environment. Counseling was provided in such cases and people co-operated by their active & positive participation.
