Community Mobilization and Environmental Awareness Program on the Occasion of World Earth Day..

Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22. On this day, events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in the year 1970, and is now observed in more than 193 countries every year. SETU marked the occasion by conducting a Community mobilization and Environmental Awareness Program on this day.

The venue selected for the green event was Sant Kabir Ashram, Gwalior. The area has too much concrete but lacks greenery.

The community mobilization program started at around 8′O clock in the morning. SETU team members spreaded the green word and raised awareness about the measures to be taken to protect the environment from air, noise and water pollution, harmful polythene bags and similar irritants that deteriorate the environment.. The importance of planting trees and maintaining cleaner and greener surroundings was conveyed to the people.

Afterwards, SETU team planted tree saplings in the area. They were soon joined by volunteers that included local inhabitants of the area as well as prominent social activists.. In all, 30 tree saplings were planted in the area. The local people there vowed to take care of the saplings and help them flourish into large trees!
