Spreading the word Fair Trade.. Celebrating World Fair Trade Month!

To mark the ocassion of World Fair Trade month, a workshop spreading awareness on the concept of Fair Trade was organised at Indian Institute Of Craft & Design (IICD), Jaipur (Rajasthan) on October 15, 2014. IICD is one of the top most renowned Design Institutes in India and focuses primarily on crafts. The programme was organised by SETU in collaboration with Fair Trade Forum India, Jan Kala Sahitya Manch and Aravali Exports.

The program started with a presentation on Fair Trade. On this occasion, IICD Dean , Director & other senior faculty, senior FTF-I officials, volunteers from SETU Society, Jan Kala Sahitya Manch, Foreign traders and around 160 students of IICD participated in the session. In all, 210 people attended the programme.

Following topics were covered in the workshop:
– Awareness generation about Fair Trade & its 10 basic principles.
– Using Fair Trade as an ethical business model
– How profitable businesses can also be operated following principles of Fair Trade
– Role of Fair Trade in providing an international platform to the artisans
– Artisan Development & role of youth.
– Buying Fair Trade Products, role of consumers and preserving livelihoods.
– Role of design and designers in development and Fair Trade.


The session concluded with an open house discussion on Fair Trade where students and other participants expressed their opinions on Fair trade concept and asked questions on the topic. The students showed a keen interest in learning about Fair Trade and how they can contribute. The overall event was highly successful!
